Eastern and Southeastern, Connecticut are home to some of the most beautiful places in the region, our coastal area hosts The US Coast Guard Academy and the US Naval Submarine Base, as well as the Avery Point campus of the University of Connecticut, Conn College, numerous museums, historical landmarks and parks. Other points of interest are the Mystic Aquarium and Dr. Robert Ballards' Institute for Exploration, the Mystic Seaport, one of the few remaining whaling ports and villages, Foxwood's Resort Casino, the largest casino in the world, followed closely by the Mohegan Sun Casino. For those seaworthy folks, our ocean provides some of the best boating and sailing in the Eastern United States.
Traveling to Northeastern Connecticut -- people seeking serenity, vineyards and farmland will find themselves right at home, though this area is in line for growth you will still find quaint areas to call home or start your new business. Those not seeking the ocean breezes will find many historic homes, active farms, rolling hills and stone walls in these picturesque parts. Home to many actors and actresses, the Quiet Corner has become a sought after place to live.
As education is paramount, schooling in Eastern CT is considered some of the best available. Connecticut hosts many private schools such as: The Williams School in New London, the Pine Point School in Stonington and The Pomfret School in Pomfret. These institutions are of such high regard, most are attended by children from different parts of the country. The Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, is a large semi-private high school set on a beautiful college like campus. NFA is distinguished as a Blue Ribbon School, this is an award presented to the top schools in the country. Hosting 2,000 plus students, NFA is renowned for their arts programs and museums. Additionally, public schools as a whole in eastern CT traditionally rank well versus the country average.
Connecticut has more open space or greenways than any other state in the nation. Eastern CT is no exception. With several state forests nearby, you are sure to enjoy hiking, biking, bird-watching and more in the tens of thousands of protected acres in the region.
Though snowfall in eastern CT has been in steady decline, winter sports fanatics will enjoy the proximity to the best ski resorts in the Northeast. Mt. Killington, Okemo, Stratton, Stowe, Sugarbush, Sugarloaf, Sunday River and many more are a few short hours away.
Alternatively, those whom appreciate the warm weather more will enjoy the CT beaches as well as the 400+ miles of coastline and beaches of neighboring Rhode Island. Voted some of the best beaches on the East Coast, these white sand destinations are sure to please. If fishing is your thing, this area has it from Striped Bass to Bluefin Tuna!
Looking for a new job in a new place? Look no further. As home to the two largest casinos in the world, there is never a shortage for new jobs. As both casinos move to complete $1 Billion expansions, each is hiring 2,000 to 3,000 new employees. In Groton, General Dynamics, the premier submarine building shipyard has recently announced the need for several hundred new engineers and several hundred designers.
One of the ways CENTURY 21 Allyn-Anchor Associates gives back to our community is through the Newspapers in Education Program. Our company feels that it is important to get kids to read and to be aware of our world events. In an effort to promote that thinking, the company began participating in this successful program about four years ago.
